Charlie
How did you and Charlie first meet, and what drew you to each other?
We adopted Charlie 6 years ago from the greyhound adoption program. We'd known we wanted to get a greyhound for several years, but had been waiting for the right time. When we contacted GAP we were put on their wait list for a number of months. And then one weekend (feeling very impatient) we decided to just go to one of their adoption days. We met Charlie first and took her for a little walk, and it was love! She came home with us that afternoon.
What ridiculous nicknames do you have for her, and how did she earn them?
Charlie's name was expanded to Charlie Shark soon after we got her because of her very unique Mohawk (shark fin). She's also called sharkie, noodle, noodle horse, noodle pie, triangle head, and sweetheart.
How would you describe her personality?
Charlie is super easygoing, gentle and sweet, but still has silly moments playing with her favourite stuffed toy sloth. She loves older people and will often approach them specifically to try and get a pat. She knows when her pawrents need a cuddle and she can't get enough of a good ear scratch.
What does she love to do the most?
Charlie is the most playful and excited when she gets to play in the waves at the beach. She loves a sniffari over a powerwalk, and makes it her mission to check all the wee-mail when we go out. But really her favourite thing is to nap on the couch, which she will happily do all day.
What's everyday life like with your girl by your side?
We feel so lucky to have Charlie in our family. I'm sure most dog owners feel this way - but she is just the best dog.
What lessons about life or yourself have you learned from Charlie?
Since bringing Charlie home, we have fostered 4 other greyhounds to help them get used to life as a family pet. Charlie is an excellent foster sister, teaching them all the best bits about pet life, including the comfiest places to nap and how to get treats. It's been fun getting to know each foster greyhound's little personalities and help them find their furever families.
