Boaky + Amber

How did Boaky come into your world?

I was lucky enough to meet Boaky at just 2 weeks old, every week after this I was able to visit him until we got to welcome him into our home.
We connected instantly and the way we were drawn to each other from the beginning laid the foundation to our forever adventure.

How would you describe his personality?

Boaky is my "Chunky Boy" with being very food orientated, he will do anything to get left overs or sneak a few snacks of choice from the pantry, hence the child locks we have on all cupboards. Boaky has a presence which gives me comfort on my loneliest days. He can be playful and cheeky, but his reassuring nature on the darkest of days are what makes him so special.

What does he love to do the most?

Other than eating, Boaky loves being in the presence of our family. He is always there, a shadow behind us and sometimes a tripping hazard under our feet but he loves just being with us.

If he could tell us all something about you, what would he say?

I would imagine that he would share that I am not as strong and tough as I choose to show to the world. He probably would say that I need to sit still once in awhile too!

What's everyday life like with your boy by your side?

Boaky loves to lay on the end of the bed while our family gets ready for the day, with 4 year old twins running around he just enjoys being in amongst the chaos, this will often be followed with him laying by my feet whether in the kitchen or bathroom he is right there, ready to catch a crumb or two of breakfast.
He has a great sense of routine and time so if we haven't fed him on time or are running late to leave he makes us fully aware with his attitude. As Boaky has aged, his playfulness has slowed down but you will never find him far away. He still enjoys sticking his head out the window on car rides and using his bursts of random energy to play outside, with most of his time spent soaking up some sunshine, having a snuggle or waiting patiently to greet us on our return home.

How has having Boaky changed your life?

After a relationship break down and parting with the life I had, It was Boaky and I who had to start again, just us against the world. With the loss of my Dad, I felt a lot of heart ache and spiralled with my mental health. On the darkest days when I have struggled Boaky's silent presence and unconditional love gave me strength to take each day as it came. Our family unit now consists of my partner and 4 year old twins who adore Boaky and his companionship. He still continues to have the power of comforting those who need it and I can't imagine facing life without him there.

Unfortunately with a recent diagnosis of osteosarcoma, the time to say goodbye to our sweet chunky boy has come sooner than it should.
Although this news has been devastating to process, it has also given us the motivation to ensure our final moments are memorable, and that he leaves us knowing we gave him the best life he could ever have.
